The world is dependent on mineral resources to produce products from drywall to cell phones. As we embark on a great energy transition from the fossil fuels of the past to the green energies of the future, the demand for mineral resources will only continue to grow.

Many of the world’s easily discoverable and extractable mineral resources have been depleted. Where will we find the rare earth and other strategic metals we will need?

To investigate answers to this question, the Haroldson Research Group investigates the geologic record for past movement of fluids in the crust of the Earth, often with a goal of understanding ore deposit forming systems. This work is done employing a variety of research tools; commonly analyzing fluid inclusions, and stable and radiogenic isotopes.
